If you're from here, then you know this is a staple in mostly every carry out within the inner city of Baltimore. From days a bit beyond Jim Crow to now, this served as an affordable indulgence for black people and those beneath the poverty line. 
What started as fried chicken accompanied with slices of bread, "upgrading" through the decades to fried chicken & fries and topped with simple seasonings and condiments as a finish:
